Dengke

Captured in July 2026 during a journey with Professor Mel’s Dengke Project team in Western Sichuan, this series of photographs offers an intimate look at local Tibetan portraits, religious tapestries, and the raw beauty of the natural landscape.

More than a visual chronicle, this collection serves as a micro-anthropological exploration into the rich, intricate layers of intersecting faiths and cultures. Nestled within the folds of snow-capped mountains and prayer flags, a subtle yet profound dialogue unfolds at this remote, sacred intersection—where the ancient oil lamps of Tibetan Buddhism quietly meet the subtle footprints of Christian cross-cultural mission. Through these frames of light and shadow, we seek to witness a dynamic yet harmonious collision of Eastern and Western civilisations, revealing the universal human longing for redemption, promise, and the eternal, hidden beneath the garments of different faiths.
